Liz McGrath is widely known for her collection of five-star Relais & Châteaux hotels in the Western Cape. In tribute to her, her family dedicated this rose to her name. Like the hotels that carry her distinctive signature, it reflects elegance, charm, and strong character.
The tight, urn-shaped buds show subtle green tinges over a bronzy-golden base, indicating firm petals and excellent longevity. As the flowers open, the warm bronze on the reverse of the petals contrasts beautifully with the soft golden tones inside. Over several days, layer upon layer of petals gradually unfold into full, richly formed blooms reminiscent of historic garden roses.
As the blooms mature, their bronze tones soften into an apricot glow, bringing warmth and vibrancy to a bush in full flower. The medium-length, sturdy stems hold the blooms upright, making them ideal for cutting and home arrangements. The flowers also carry a distinctive spicy fragrance.
The plant forms a beautiful, dense, rounded bush growing to chest height, with healthy deep green foliage and abundant flowering. Blooms are produced both in clusters and on individual stems, with new flowering shoots continually replacing spent blooms well into winter.
This rose performs well in mixed plantings with hybrid teas, Antico Moderno™ and Fairy Tale™ roses, and is equally suited to group plantings or large containers. A portion of sales is donated to Mrs McGrath’s chosen charity.
