Agapanthus ‘Black Pantha’ 20cm Pot
Common Name: Black Panther Agapanthus, African Lily, Blue Lily

Agapanthus ‘Black Panther’ is a striking evergreen agapanthus cultivar prized for its exceptionally dark flower colour. Almost-black flower buds open to rich, velvety dark violet-blue blooms, creating a dramatic contrast against the strap-like green foliage. It forms a neat clump and produces tall flower stems above the foliage during summer.

Indigenous: Yes – Agapanthus is indigenous to South Africa, although ‘Black Pantha’ is a cultivated hybrid/cultivar.
Growth Habit: Evergreen, clump-forming perennial; approximately 60–100cm tall, with flowering stems potentially reaching around 1–1.3m.
Foliage: Strappy, arching green to grey-green leaves forming a dense, attractive clump.
Flowers: Very dark violet-blue flowers emerging from almost-black buds, carried in rounded flower heads above the foliage. Flowers appear in summer.
Position: Full sun to light shade. Full sun encourages the best flowering.
Watering: Moderate. Once established, it can tolerate periods of dryness, but regular deep watering during active growth will encourage stronger growth and better flowering.
Soil: Adaptable to most well-drained soils. Incorporating compost before planting will encourage lush growth.
Wildlife: Flowers attract pollinators including bees and sunbirds.
Uses: Excellent for mass planting, borders, pathways, focal planting, rockeries and containers. Its exceptionally dark flowers also make it an excellent feature plant where a strong colour contrast is wanted. Agapanthus are particularly effective when planted in groups.
