Lyn Keppler, known as the “Rose Lady of KwaZulu-Natal,” dedicated much of her life to roses after taking over a rose nursery in Hillcrest more than three decades ago. Starting out as a secretary and housewife, she faced the many challenges of professional rose growing, ultimately becoming an expert grower whose life became devoted to “the love of a rose.”
In her honour, the rose named ‘Lyn Keppler’ was selected for its outstanding qualities as a modern variety combined with the romantic charm of old garden roses.
The plant grows strongly and produces multiple sturdy, lightly thorned stems throughout the season, each carrying large, very firm-petalled blooms held proudly upright in pale pink.
Egg-shaped buds open slowly, first showing a classic pointed hybrid tea form before transforming as the inner petals unfurl into a very full, quartered bloom reminiscent of antique roses from over a century ago. A distinct, sweet fragrance adds an unexpected highlight to this long-lasting cut flower.
This rose performs well in mixed hybrid tea beds or as a standalone feature wherever roses are grown.
